Honoring Those Who Seize the Day

Sunflowers to Roses annually awards The Jack Lockton Memorial Cancer Survivors Carpe Diem Award to one Kansas City area cancer survivor who took control, got informed, fought the cancer and survived with dignity and determination. Nominees should be those who maintain an “I am a survivor” attitude while battling cancer and are fortunate enough to overcome their struggle.

Sunflowers to Roses proudly honors each year’s winner with a crystal commemorative achievement award and a $2,500 grant to the cancer charity or research facility of his or her choice. We welcome you to send your written nominations (400 words or fewer) to S2Rride@gmail.com.

  • The 2005 recipient of the Jack Lockton Memorial Cancer Survivor Carpe Diem Award is Linda Freeman, throat cancer survivor and autoworker at Ford Motor Company
  • The 2006 award recipient was Mellisa O’Connell from Pembroke Hill School
